You can visit the memorial- those three steel spires bursting out of a hill near the Pentagon- whenever it’s open, but for a soaring experience, check out the free Friday-evening concerts in the summer. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket, or stake out a seat on one of the low walls, and listen to talented Air Force bands such as Airmen of Note (jazz), the Air Force Orchestra, or Max Impact (rock)- while gazing at a postcard-worthy view of the DC skyline.
