Get Ready to be Wowed by the Colors at This Hindu Fusion Wedding

One of the best aspects of Washington weddings is the mix of all cultures and traditions that are represented. We love that Deepa Bijpuria and Matthew (Matt) Kauppi’s stunning fall celebration was infused with the bride’s Hindu culture, their shared love of travel, and the vibrant fall foliage that they imitated with the warm red tones in their floral arrangements, all expertly captured by Vicki Grafton Photography.

Match.com was responsible for their formal introduction, but software engineer Matt and nonprofit attorney Deepa were connected long before they knew it—Matt’s sister Jenny was friends with Deepa’s law-school roommate. Shortly after they began dating, the couple visited Jenny’s apartment, where Deepa was surprised to see herself in a framed group photo from a party years before. “From that moment, I knew that Matt and I were meant to be,” she says.

Matt proposed a few days shy of Deepa’s birthday, at Virginia’s Sky Meadows State Park. The whirlwind five-month engagement, which followed seven years of dating, ended in a fun fusion celebration amid fall foliage.

The couple wrote their own vows and incorporated their love of travel throughout the reception: Guests signed in on a map of the world, wrote marital advice on vintage postcards, and received leather luggage tags as favors.

As the night wore on, slices of hazelnut-and-chocolate and strawberries-and-cream cakes were served, and then guests boogied to the surprise hit of the night: a live reggae band.
