What’s special: Hotel Palomar is in a 1929 Art Deco building brought back to life after a $92.5-million renovation and is steps away from restaurants, trendy Rittenhouse Square Park, theaters, and high-end boutiques. Hotel Monaco is in the Lafayette Building, a 1907 landmark building that still has its original coffered ceiling and marble elevator banks; guests can ride up to the hotel’s rooftop lounge, Stratus. The Monaco is in the heart of Old City, with Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell across the street. Panda-monium at the Ritz

Inn the Mood for Romance

What’s special: Last year, the Goodstone Inn was a winner in both USA Today’s reader-chosen list of the Top 10 Best Romantic Inns in the USA and OpenTable’s Diners’ Choice Awards for Top 100 Best Restaurants in America. Goodstone’s charming Carriage House is the heart of the inn—the 100-year-old structure is framed by two wings carved out of former stables. Meticulously restored, it now has a Great Room with a floor-to-ceiling fieldstone fireplace, comfy sofas, an enormous dark-wood bar, and a white-tablecloth restaurant. Hitting the Slopes

What’s special: This resort is close to some of the best skiing on the East Coast and has a great spa to boot. Family-owned for more than 50 years, Stoweflake offers a variety of activities, and even more nearby. Sit by the fire at cozy Charlie B’s and have a meal and a drink—50-plus wines are available by the glass, and ten beers are on tap. The slopes, reachable by shuttle, are five minutes away; plus, Stowe’s cross-country ski center provides backcountry trails as well-groomed tracks. There are sleigh rides, dog-sledding tours, guided ice-fishing tours, and snowmobile tours. For more exercise, head to the resort’s fitness center for a roster of classes. The spa offers 30 treatment rooms and more than 150 signature healing and anti-aging remedies as well as cascading waterfalls to sit by and mineral pools in which to soak.
