We’re Digging the Chill Vibe at This Hip, Rooftop Cocktail Party Wedding

We love how Tayler Lofquist and Peter (Pete) Tchoukaleff’s spring wedding was the best of both worlds: classic and elegant, while incorporating some pretty modern touches: mismatched bridesmaid dresses, floral ties for the groomsmen, a cute dessert bar, and a cool, rooftop party vibe at the reception—all of which was captured by Audra Wrisley Photography.

Tayler was enrolled in a history class at George Washington University when she first spotted her attractive classmate, Pete, who was sitting with a mutual friend. She knew then she wanted to get acquainted. One day, she sat next to him, using his doodles on his notes as a conversation starter. They’d remained friendly for a couple of years when one night Pete was riding his bike past Tayler’s apartment while she was sitting on the front steps. She texted him and told him to turn around. He rode back, and the pair spent hours chatting. The next day, Pete took Tayler to dinner.

They’d dated for three and a half years when Tayler walked in from work on a Friday night to find Pete ready with cocktails and music playing. After drinks, they took their greyhound Obie on a walk to the Capitol. When they made it to the Capitol Building lawn, Tayler headed to a park bench to sit down. When she turned around, Pete was down on one knee.

For their spring wedding, they returned to their alma mater to celebrate at the City View Room at George Washington University. Rather than a sit-down dinner, they opted for passed hors d’oeuvres to give the event a “rooftop cocktail party vibe” and allow them to spend the evening mingling and dancing rather than sitting and eating.

Though one might expect wedding-day jitters, Tayler and Peter said that a feeling of calm came over them on the big day as they were surrounded by loved ones. After dancing to “Maybe I’m Amazed” by Paul McCartney—the artist who Pete had covered the first time he played his guitar for Tayler—the happy couple departed with a sparkler send-off.
