8 DC Holiday Pop-Up Markets You Don’t Want to Miss

For unique and locally made gifts, DC’s holiday markets are ideal—especially if you want to get in a festive spirit with a glass of hot cocoa in hand. Mark your calendar now for the pop-up shopping extravaganzas that are headed here this month, and knock out your whole gift list with a visit to a market or two.

All Crafts Considered

When: November 15, 3 to 8 PM

Where: NPR Headquarters, 1111 North Capitol St., NE

What: For the fourth year, NPR is turning their offices into a holiday market, packing it out with locally-made products as well as artisanal goods from the New England region. 

116 King Holiday Pop-Up

When: Now through December 31, daily from 10 AM to 8 PM

Where: 116 King Street, Alexandria

What: A prepster’s paradise, the market is in partnership with Nantucket shop The Skinny Dip, bringing brands like Artemis Design Co., Ellsworth & Ivey, and Almanac Industries to Old Town. 

The Junior League of Washington’s 58th Annual Holiday Shops

When: November 18, 6 to 10 PM; November 19, 8 AM to 8 PM; November 20, 8 AM to 6 PM

Where: Dock5 at Union Market, 1309 5th St., NE

What: The weekend kicks off with a candy cane cocktail event (tickets are $50 to $55) during which attendees can browse the goods while munching on local food and beverages, followed by general shopping on Saturday and Sunday (tickets $5 each day) from the market’s 60-plus vendors with events—including photos with your dog and Santa—scattered throughout the weekend.

12th Annual Downtown Holiday Market

When: November 25 through December 23, daily from noon to 8 PM

Where: On F Street between Seventh and Ninth Streets, NW

What: Over 150 rotating vendors from the region, with 60 vendors on site each day. Local vendors include the likes of Marcella Kriebel Art & Illustration, Cherry Blossom Creative, DeNada Design, Stitch & Rivet, and more. A selection of live entertainment will provide the background music, while Vigilante Coffee and Migue’s Magnificent Mini Donuts will supply sustenance.


When: December 2, 4 to 9 PM; December 3 and 4, 11 AM to 5 PM

Where: Heurich House Museum, New Hampshire Ave., NW

What: 40 of the area’s craftsmen, from chocolate makers to ceramicists, at the Christkindlmarkt outdoors, while visitors can also take tours of the Heurich House Museum, which will be decorated for the holidays.

Alexandria’s Holiday Market

When: December 3 and 4, 9 through 11, and 16 through 22; 11 AM to 7 PM each day

Where: 300 John Carlyle St., Alexandria

What: An outdoor market with vendors selling everything from clothing to holiday decor to jewelry, with hot wine and cocoa to fuel the fun and live music to keep things feeling festive.

Holiday Pop-Up Bazaar

When: December 4; 4 to 6 PM

Where: East Side Yoga, 518 10th St., NE

What: Ten Capitol Hill businesses that are all owned by local women. From Summit to Soul’s stock of fitness gear to East City Books to Capital Teas to J. Chocolatier, there’s sure to be lots of variety in goods to shop. If the holiday hustle is starting to get to you, Restorative Massage on the Hill will be offering gratis massage demonstrations.

Steadfast Supply

When: Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, from 10 AM to 6 PM each day through December

Where: Arris, 1331 4th St., SE

What: 15 to 20 local vendors that will turn over a the end of November, marketing clothing, vintage goods, beauty products, jewelry, and more in a cool, industrial space in Navy Yard.
