Watch-lovers can start counting down the minutes: a new Shinola store is coming to Tysons Corner Center this summer. The 1,149 square-foot store is slated to open either in late August or early September, according to Shinola President Jacques Panis. The store is destined for a space between what is currently Super Dry and Madewell.

“DC is very very important market for us as a brand,” explains Panis. “Our mission is to create jobs here in the United States and that resonates with the community there. People in Washington understand the importance of business like Shinola and what we represent.”

The Tysons location will mark the 20th location for the Detroit-based manufacturer, which is especially known for its leather goods and fine watches. The Tysons store will include the nearly the full range of Shinola products, including sound equipment (and possibly bikes as well), and will also offer monogramming and a build-your-own watch bar for customizing timepieces.

Shinola first set up a permanent storefront in DC in September of 2015, after teasing customers for months with a temporary location. But the resulting flagship store on 14th Street was truly a sight to behold, a 5,000 square-foot-behemoth with checkerboard floors and wood and glass display cases, accented with potted ferns.

The design of the Tysons location Shinola will be centered around various white oak millwork display units built into neutral-painted walls that will showcase the individual product. The store will be illuminated by theater-style light fixtures hung from industrial pipe-rail, similar to the 14th Street Shinola, for a clean refined look with modern industrial accents.
