If chefs can have their own inaugural ball, then so can yogis.
The yoga community is celebrating inauguration 2013 with its first-ever inaugural event, Yoga Ball 2013. The local yoga community is hosting the Sunday-night event in partnership with Off the Mat and Into the World (OTM) and YogaVotes, two organizations that also held a nonpartisan campaign in DC in October to encourage yogis to get out and vote.
“Our goal is to offer the community here in the nation’s capital a chance to set the most positive intention possible for the new term, in hopes for a productive and cooperative future for local and national governments,” says event founder and director Ajay Bhatt.
But don’t expect long gowns and caviar. The event begins with a yoga asana practice led by DC instructor Faith Hunter of Embrace Yoga, followed by a vegetarian meal prepared by DC Central Kitchen. The night ends with live music performed by local musicians and a meditation.
Tickets are $50 in advance and $60 at the door. The event will take place at St. Francis Hall (1340 Quincy St., NE) on January 20, beginning at 4 PM. Visit the event’s website for more information.
