The Week in Fitness Events: DC VegFest, Free Outdoor Workout, Clarendon Day

Fitness studios and gyms are welcoming the fall season with fun and free events that will work up a sweat.

This week marks the start and end of local fitness classes in Washington, from yoga standup paddleboarding with Key Bridge Boathouse to Downtown DC BID's final free outdoor workout in Franklin Park. Photograph by Melissa Romero.

Local fitness studios and gyms are going all out this week with some pretty epic events planned to say goodbye to summer and hello to fall. From free indoor cycling classes to yoga and hiking through Dupont Circle, there’s something every day of the week.

Monday: Yoga Standup Paddleboarding
Just because summer’s over doesn’t mean you can’t hit the water for a relaxing workout. Head to Key Bridge Boathouse at 6 for yoga standup paddleboarding at sunset before the boathouse closes in late October. $35.

Tuesday: Fun Runs
We’re in the heart of fall race season, so tune up or find a running buddy at one of the many free fun runs offered by local running stores. Tuesday there’s a 6:30 PM fun run with City Sport’s new Run Club at 19th Street. Lululemon Georgetown also hosts its weekly run tonight.

Wednesday: Final Workout Wednesday
If you haven’t made it out to Downtown DC BID’s Workout Wednesdays at Franklin Park, this Wednesday is your last chance. The final free class ends with an all-star workout that combines various aspects from each exercise class held this summer. Think a Jillian Michaels high-intensity workout mixed with strength training and yoga. Expect freebies such as T-shirts from City Sports, snacks from Freshii, and gym passes from Crunch.

Thursday: Yoga Hikes With Sweetgreen
One of our favorite workouts to come to DC this year is partnering with Sweetgreen on Thursday for a yoga hike through DC. Yoga-hikers will begin at Sweetgreen Dupont at 6 PM and make their way along sidewalks, steps, and hills. Proceeds will go towards Dumbarton Oaks Parks Conservancy. $16.

Friday: Balance Gym Party
Head to Balance Gym Thomas Circle after work on Friday from 5 to 9 to be treated to CrossFit sessions and free drinks and food from Sweetgreen, Vita Coco, and Power Supply. The gym is launching a new initiative called Balance Life.

Saturday: Clarendon Day
The 16th annual event takes place from 11 to 5 along the streets of Clarendon. If you’re not already signed up for the Pacers 10K or 5K, head over to Revolve’s outdoor tent for free indoor cycling classes at noon, 1, 2, and 3.

DC VegFest
This free outdoor festival at Yards Park celebrates all things vegetarian, with cooking demonstrations, food samples, and kid-friendly activities. Snack your way through the festivities from 11 to 6.

Sunday: Brick Class at Off Road
We’ll be heading to Off Road’s Brick class Sunday morning at 8:30 for a spin session followed by a run outdoors. Whether you’re training for your first triathlon or just want to squeeze two workouts into one, Off Road’s new workout is a calorie-busting way to end your weekend.
