Distance: 41 miles one way.
Don’t want to do an 82-mile round-trip ride? Beg a favor from a
friend in Baltimore—buy him or her dinner in York, Pennsylvania, in
exchange for shuttling your car (while you stay behind) down I-83 to just
north of the Baltimore Beltway. Starting in York, the flat, crushed-gravel
trail mostly follows the Gunpowder Falls River. Well shaded, it’s cool
even on hot days, with places to stop and soak your feet. And ice-cream
shops seem to crop up every ten miles or so.
Make it easier: If you have
no Baltimore buddies, begin in Ashland, Maryland, and ride to Monkton and
