Doron Petersan has been a pioneer in the vegan baking world, launching Sticky Fingers in Columbia Heights 16 years ago. She’s since expanded the shop to include an adjoining cafe, launched wholesale distribution to major grocery stores such as Whole Foods, and garnered two winning titles on Food Network’s Cupcake Wars. Up next: a vegan bistro, bakery, and bar in the Atlas District called Fare Well.

The 2,600-square-foot space at 406 H Street, Northeast will encompass many dining and drinking styles; a quick-grab lunch counter, bakery case, bar, and casual sit-down diner for 50. Sticky Fingers fans will find a few favorites like Little Devil cakes and oatmeal sandwich cookies, but the menu will expand with vegan scones, croissants, danishes, and pies. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will feature meatless takes on American classics as well as Mediterranean dishes, with an emphasis on house-baked breads like challah and focaccia.

W Hotel barkeep Joe Ambrose has signed on to design the drink menu; he also runs the artisanal ice company Favourite Ice. Petersan plans to keep extended bar hours on Friday and Saturday, seven days a week.

An opening is slated for this summer. Stay tuned for more closer to the debut.
