How Sydney Wears It: 4 Pieces You Need for a Chic Weekend Wardrobe

These wardrobe staples with a twist will rescue any outfit from Dullsville.

Hello again, and a very happy Tuesday to you! Today we’re tackling another reader style question.

Q: Here’s the dilemma I face every weekend: I’d like to wear something cute, but I feel like I only have work clothes or jeans. Anything I buy that breaks that pattern ends up looking too workish or too casual when I get it home. Any suggestions would be a huge help.

A: The four pieces I have in constant rotation are my pleated skirt, fur vest, boyfriend blazer, and flared trouser jeans. They may not seem like wardrobe “staples” at first, but I’ve always found them to add just enough to an outfit. Hopefully these combos inspire you to try them out yourself!

1) Faux-Fur Vest

This look may not be right for everyone, but I’ve always thought it adds the perfect degree of flair to an outfit. And because it acts as a neutral, it’s easy both to wear and to style. Alternatives to the vest might include a faux-fur hat or collar to wear over your coat.

2) Boyfriend Blazer + Trouser Jeans

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve worn these two items—their cost per wear has got to be down to about three cents by now. Both items can be dressed up or down, and will still be in style years from now.

3) Pleated Skirt

As the weather begins to transition into spring, pleated skirts are a must for easy weekend style. Dress it up with pumps and a blouse, or down with a T-shirt and strappy sandals. No matter how you choose to style the skirt, the minimalist look is comfy and easy to achieve—perfect for the weekend!
