Friday, October 7

ARMY TEN-MILER EXPO: The Army Ten-Miler takes place Sunday, but participants and the public are invited to attend the ATM Health & Fitness Expo at DC Armory today and Saturday. Runners can pick up their packets at the expo, and more than 100 companies will be stationed at booths, including Georgetown Running Co., iFitness, Women’s Running Magazine, USA Track and Field, and more. Saturday, October 8

5K RUN: Join the fight to end childhood obesity at the YMCA Alexandria’s 5K run and walk. Proceeds from the race will allow local children access to the YMCA’s wellness programs. The race will take place at Cameron Run Regional Park (4001 Eisenhower Ave., Alexandria). To register, click here. $30. 8:30 AM.

FUN RIDE: The Arlington Fun Ride invites family and friends to ride together for a 17-mile loop around the city, via the W&OD, Custis, Mt. Vernon, and Four Mile Run trails. Proceeds from the ride will go towards the Phoenix Bikes shop. Children can take a dance fitness class and learn about bike safety and health. Sunday, October 9

ROLLER DERBY: It’s the DC Rollergirls’ season opener at the DC Armory. Watch these tough ladies race around the track while pushing and shoving, all while on roller skates. Tickets are available at the door. $12 for adults, $6 for kids ages 6 to 11, and free for 6 and under. Doors open at 3 PM.

TEN-MILER: Registration has been full for the Army Ten-Miler at the Pentagon since May, but you can still cheer on more than 30,000 military and civilian runners as they show off their “Army Spirit.” Nice spots to check out the competitors will be at the Lincoln Memorial, Kennedy Center, the National Indian Museum and the National Air and Space Museum, Independence Avenue, and of course, the finish line at the Pentagon. Post-race festivities will include food, entertainment, and giveaways. For more information, click here. Free. 8 AM.

5K RUN/WALK: The Foundation for the Children of Vietnam hosts its second annual 5K run and walk at Glen Carlyn Park (301 S. Harriston St., Arlington). Proceeds from the race will go towards buying 200 mountain bikes for impoverished children in the KonTum Central Highlands of Vietnam. Register here for $25. $30 for race-day regsitration, $15 for children ages 12 to 18, and $10 for children under 12. Check in begins at 8:30 AM.

EXPO: The 35th annual Natural Living Expo at the Inn & Conference Center, University of Maryland (3501 University Blvd., East, Adelphi) will feature 110 exhibitors and 64 workshops focused on mind, body, and spirit goods and services. Nutritionists, natural healers, massage therapists, and more will be on hand for consultation and demonstrations. $15. 10 AM to 7 PM.

Monday, October 10

SPA WEEK: Today is the start of the nationwide Spa Week, when you can get a spa treatment for $50 from October 10 to 16 at any participating area spas. A few of our favorite spas are on the list, including Red Door Spa at Willard InterContinental, Hela Spa, and Parma. Just sign up on Spa Week’s website, find your local spa, and call the spa directly to book your appointment.

Wednesday, October 12

ATHLETE Q&A: US Olympic marathon runner Magdalena Lewy Boulet will be at Pacers Running Store in Alexandria (1301 King St.) to answer your questions on race training and strategy. Lewy Boulet owns the 10th fastest American marathon time ever. The first 50 people to sign up will receive a Pacers 20th Anniversary T-shirt. For more information on the event, click here. LAUNCH PARTY: Potomac River Running will celebrate the launch of its first running app with a party at its Tysons Corner store (7516 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church).
