Doggie Run, Basketball Clinic, and Breathe Deep DC 5K: Fit Fun

Saturday, November 5

CLINIC: Boys and girls ages 6 to 14 with a love for basketball are encouraged to attend the Wizards and Mystics’ Skills & Drills clinic at the Woods Academy in Bethesda. Participants at every level will learn the sport’s fundamentals from former professional players, current coaching staff, and college and high school coaches and players. $60. 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM.

SEMINAR: If you were inspired by the 30,000 marathoners at last weekend’s Marine Corps Marathon, head to Potomac River Running’s seminar on how to prepare for your first 26.2-miler. There will be a Q&A session and an optional easy run after. The session will take place at the Reston location (11911 Democracy Dr., Reston). 8 to 9 AM. Free.

WORKSHOP: A free ongoing meditation workshop at Smile Herb Shop in College Park starts this Saturday. At the workshop, which runs every Saturday until November 19, you will learn how to “still your restless mind and achieve a state of serenity and joy,” based on the book Inner and Outer Peace Through Meditation by Rajinder Singh. 2 to 3:30 PM. Free.

5K: A 5K race to support closing the gender gap in political leadership will take place at American University (4400 Massachusetts Ave., NW). Proceeds from the race will go toward the university’s Women & Politics Institute. Registration is $30 online or $35 on race day. Click here for more information. 8 AM.

Sunday, November 6

10K/5K: The 36th annual Rockville 10K/5K will begin at the King Farm Village Center (King Farm Blvd. and Pleasant Dr.). After the race, enjoy a brunch with wraps, sliders, and fruit. Online registration is closed, but you can still register for $35 today by fax (240-314-8659), Saturday at the packet pick-up, or the day of the race. Click here for more information. The 10K begins at 8:30 AM; the 5K begins at 8:45.

5K: Grab your furry best friend and head to the Doggie Run at Rock Creek Park (16th and Kennedy sts., NW) to benefit the Washington Animal Rescue League. Water bowls, treats, and doggie bags will be available for the canines before and after the race. You can also participate sans dog in the Dash 5K. The 5K is $40, the Doggie Run is $30, and if you’re feeling ambitious, you can do both events for $65. 8 AM.

WALK: Breathe Deep DC is a 5K walk around the National Mall to raise money for lung cancer research. Families and pets are welcome to take part in the event and then head to the Sylvan Theatre for entertainment, face painting, and games. Register for the walk here. Fees vary. 9 AM.
