Tranquil Space to Host Beginners’ Workshop for Yoga

Yogis will also get unlimited access to yoga classes for a week.

With so many yoga studios in the Washington area, it’s easy to assume everyone is familiar with the increasingly popular practice.

Not so. In fact, heading into your first yoga class can be extremely nerve-racking, especially if you’re trying to master basic poses while the girl next to you is holding a headstand for a full minute.

Most yoga studios offer level one classes for beginners, but Tranquil Space in Arlington is devoting an entire workshop for yoga newbies this Saturday. Instructor Jennifer Hamilton will lead the two-and-a-half-hour introductory workshop, which will teach the basics of vinyasa yoga.

Vinyasa yoga focuses on alignment and breathing while going through basic poses and relaxation techniques.

Workshop attendees are encouraged to bring their own mat if possible (it’s $2 to rent one), a water bottle, and a hand towel. The workshop is $40, or $35 if you register online. The fee also includes one week of unlimited yoga classes for the week immediately following the workshop. (Single classes are $19.)
