To Do: DC Design Week

Design gurus have a lot to look forward to this week. Design Week DC and the DC chapter of AIGA, the professional association for designers, are joining forces to host a week-long celebration of local artists and designers. Here are a few highlights:

Tonight, E Street Cinema is screening Milton Glaser: To Inform and Delight, a documentary about the legendary graphic designer who co-founded New York magazine. First-time director Wendy Keys will be on hand for a short Q&A after the movie.

On Tuesday, there’s a happy hour at Urbana Wine Bar near Dupont Circle. In the basement of the Hotel Palomar, the sleek space is meant to spark conversations about design.

An event at Cady’s Alley on Thursday gives visitors the chance to mingle with architects and designers, browse furniture collections, and enjoy new artwork. The evening kicks off at 5:30 PM at Coverings House (1111 34th St., NW), where artist Alberto Gaitan unveils a new art installation. From there, the crowd will move to Boffi Studio (3320 M St., NW) for Capital Pecha Kucha Night, where designers and artists will give 20-second presentations about their work set to music. The night ends with an after-party at L2 Lounge (3315 Cady’s Alley, NW).

On Saturday, you can head back to Cady’s Alley for an afternoon of studio tours and lectures at Contemporaria, Illuminations, Design Within Reach, Bulthaup, and more. Click here for a full schedule.
