With the revitalization of its downtown, Silver Spring has become one of Washington’s most interesting areas. Many new condo and apartment buildings have gone up in the last five years, and more are being built.
Blocks from the Silver Spring Metro station, the Veridian Apartments (1133 East-West Hwy.; 301-495-9595) opened last winter. The 457-unit rental building has a rooftop pool, conference room, environmentally friendly roof, sun deck, and lounge with billiards and televisions. Floor plans include studios, one-bedrooms, and two-bedrooms. About 20 units are still available, ranging from $1,250 to $2,630 a month.
The new, 247-unit 1200 East West (1200 East-West Hwy.; 888-318-1051) offers apartments with nine-foot ceilings, granite countertops, and Energy Star appliances. The building has a health club, media/game room, play room with a climbing wall, underground parking garage, and rooftop deck. Pre-leasing has begun, and move-ins are set to start in February or March. One-bedrooms start at $1,600, two bedrooms with two baths at $2,010, and two bedrooms with den and 2½ baths at $2,875.
The Cameron Apartments, (8710 Cameron St.; 301-585-4663), a 325-unit rental building, opened in December. It offers everything from studios to apartments with two bedrooms and a den, at $1,348 to $4,134 a month. Amenities include a rooftop pool, sun deck, and gym with yoga studio.
Twenty-five condos are for sale at National Park Seminary (9610 Dewitt Dr., Silver Spring; 301-495-7707), a historic property that dates to the 1890s. Each unit has a unique floor plan, and prices range from $350,000 for one bedroom to $900,000 for three.
