Frommer’s new travel app, a free day in Richmond, and business-traveler service between Dulles and Paris.

Travel just got a little bit easier for the app-savvy. Frommer’s is offering a new (and free!) iPhone/iPad/iPod app called Travel Tools. Features include city guides, a time translator, packing list, postcard maker, and even a mini flashlight and travel trivia games.

To mark the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, Richmond is hosting a day of freebies around the city. As part of Civil War & Emancipation Day on Saturday, you can take walking tours of historic sites, hear live music, take a Segway tour or canal-boat ride, get admission to more than 15 museums, and score an ice-cream cone—all for free. Free shuttles will do a loop downtown, stopping at sites such as the Virginia Historical Society, Maggie Walker Historical Site, and Valentine Richmond History Center. Fly to Paris in style with OpenSkies’ new Capital to Capital route. The all-business airline, which previously flew only between Paris and Newark, begins service between Dulles and Paris May 3. Among OpenSkies’ amenities are 140-degree reclining seats, a lie-flat-bed option, and fewer passengers on flights. The Capital to Capital route also features a menu created by Citronelle’s Michel Richard. Flights start at $825 one way.

There are only four days left to book a cruise deal from CruisesOnly. The Balcony Blowout Sale features suite and balcony-room packages aboard top cruise lines such as Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and Holland America. The list includes more than 30 specials to destinations including Caribbean, Mexican, and Mediterranean ports. Other deals to score: free onboard spending, discounted excursions, and balcony upgrades.

Ready for a battery of spring-flight sales? Lufthansa’s Great Escapes sale includes cheap travel to top European cities such as Venice, Barcelona, Amsterdam, and more, starting from $226 one way; purchase by May 3 for travel between April 20 and June 16. Both JetBlue and AirTran also launched spring-fare sales, but those are for stateside travel only.

JetBlue is celebrating its 10th anniversary with deeply discounted fares. From Dulles, you can travel to New York, Orlando, Boston, Fort Lauderdale, Cancun, or Long Beach for as little as $44. Be sure to book by April 21.

Airtran Airways’s nationwide sale includes service to more than 60 US cities. With flights from both Dulles and Reagan National, the deal features fares from $74 to $184 each way. Book by April 20.

Travelzoo is offering a buy-two-nights-get-one-free deal at the Homestead resort in Hot Springs, Virginia, for weekends through July. The deal includes breakfast for two and a free upgrade on stays through May 5. Rooms start at around $130 a night. Go through the Travelzoo deal page to get the correct promotion code.
