Splurge vs. Steal: Ottomans

A versatile piece of furniture can break the bank—or not

Splurge: Winifred Colorbock Ottoman, $1,298

Anthropologie’s down-filled version uses complementary plaids to create a piece that feels eclectic yet balanced. We like the tiny brass-caster feet—not only are they darling, but the piece would be easy to move during a dinner party. Note that the fabric is wool, so any spills or stains would have to be professionally cleaned.

Steal: Queen Anne’s Lace Square Ottoman, $299

Trade plaid for funky florals in this value-version ottoman from Target. It’s stuffed with polyfoam, and the cotton fabric—which appears to have a bit of texture—can be spot-cleaned. Yellow not your style? The ottoman also comes in blue.
