Why we love it: Exposed brick can be heavy and industrial. But this Kalorama two-bedroom sets panels of exposed brick against glowing dark-wood floors and floods the open floorplan with light from windows with two exposures. The luxurious kitchen is a gourmand’s dream, with stainless-steel appliances and broad marble countertops. We’d prefer a gas range to an electric one, but with a Wolf stove, who’s complaining?

The kitchen flows into a spacious dining and living area. The dining table in the real-estate agent’s pictures seats six, but the space could accommodate even more people. We’d love to be able to curl up in this sunny living room on a bright day or pick a book from the built-in shelves in the second bedroom (we might get rid of the carpeting in the bedrooms) and retreat when the weather is inclement.

And we love that this fully equipped, modern apartment comes in a charming package. The 1911 building has wonderful details around the eaves and on the facade and it curves around a gorgeous courtyard. It’s fun to fantasize about coming home past the lanterns that frame the entry stairs, walking through the garden, and being in a fully renovated apartment with all the trimmings.
