For Whonder, who focuses on financial services and housing, it’s been a hectic couple of years. She now spends most of her time on the implementation of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street reform bill, and before it passed she was working to ensure that the interests of her long list of financial clients were considered in the law. One victory came in 2009, when Whonder—former chief adviser to Democratic New York senator Charles Schumer on the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee—helped extend the first-time-homebuyer tax credit. Representing Realogy—the firm that owns Century 21, ERA, Coldwell Banker, and other major players in the real-estate industry—she helped get the tax credit extended and, more important, got it expanded beyond first-time buyers to include repeat buyers.
