Designer of the Week: Claire Pettibone

Whimsical, bohemian wedding dresses inspired by the French countryside.

These gowns would be lovely at an outdoor wedding. All photographs courtesy of Claire Pettibone

Claire Pettibone’s wedding gowns have an heirloom quality, like they were plucked from the coolest vintage store in Paris or your (extremely chic) grandmother’s closet. Her Fall 2012 collection, called “Beau Monde,” was inspired by 18th-century France, and Pettibone incorporates romantic lace, French toile fabric, and hints of blue and gold into her designs. And while the fronts of her wedding dresses are simply swoon-worthy, it’s often the back view that really shines.

We imagine Claire Pettibone’s sheaths fitting in beautifully at local wedding venues that have a countryside feel. Breaux Vineyards in Purcellville, Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, and Strong Mansion in Dickerson all come to mind.

Claire Pettibone wedding dresses are sold at Hannelore’s in Alexandria.
