Lou Lou, 1623 Connecticut Avenue, Northwest
Just a few steps from the Dupont-area Lou Lou’s jewelry emporium, this locally based chainlet expands beyond baubles and bags with a clothing-only boutique. The store—which opened its doors on Friday—stocks casual-cool contemporary brands such as Free People, Ella Moss, Tulle, and Ark & Co., tailored to the Washington working gal and, like the jewelry, priced squarely in the affordable range. Lou Lou already operates clothing boutiques in Middleburg and Leesburg in addition to its ten jewelry shops, but this is the first apparel store within the District’s city lines.

Alex and Ani, 3068 M Street. Northwest
The New England-based jewelry brand opened its 28th store (and first in Washington!) on M Street in Georgetown last month. The eco-friendly, made-in-the-USA line is big on positive energy and symbolism, so expect its bangles, rings, necklaces, and earrings to showcase lots of boho-chic styling. Beading? Nature motifs? Om charms? Check, check, and check.
