2013 Turkey Trots in Washington

It’s time to retire your zombie makeup and dust off your best turkey costume. Turkey trots are in full swing this year, with almost 20 races taking place in the Washington area. We rounded up some of the best runs to sign up for, thanks to great perks and post-party prizes.

Vienna Turkey Trot 10K, 5K, 1-Mile

For those heading out of town for Thanksgiving, the 11th annual Vienna Turkey Trot takes place a few days before the big feast. The top finishers will receive $75, a trophy, and a free-range, organic turkey from Whole Foods. Register online for $15, $30, and $40. 

Laurel Turkey Trot and 1-Mile Historical Fun Walk

For the first time, the Laurel Turkey Trot includes a one-mile fun walk through the historical town of Laurel. Proceeds support the Laurel Advocacy & Referral Services and raises awareness for the homeless. Register for $30. 

Arlington Turkey Trot

The eighth annual Arlington Turkey Trot is expected to draw some 2,300 runners to the streets of Lyon Park and Ashton Heights. Proceeds go toward the Arlington-Alexandria Coalition for the Homeless, Doorways for Women & Families, and the Arlington Food Assistance Center. Dogs are welcome on the course. Register for $20 to $32 depending on age. 

Freedom Turkey Trot 5K

The family-fun 5K course is flat and fast, running through the George Mason University-Manassas campus. Pre- and post-race celebrations will take place inside the Freedom Aquatic and Fitness Center, where after the 5K runners can jump into a sauna or jacuzzi. Register for $25 to $30. 

Trot for Hunger
Thursday, November 28, 9 AM
The 12th annual Trot for Hunger in DC supports the hungry and homeless in Washington. Sign up and run for the cause, or fundraise individually or with a team. Winners receive a range of prizes, from $100 gift card to Pacers Running Stores to bagels for a year from Panera. Register for $25 and up. 

4-Mile Fairfax Turkey Trot
Thursday, November 28, 9 AM
The first annual race to benefit the Bob Woodruff Foundation is just $20 for a four-mile run through Mantua. Strollers are welcome on the course. Register online.
