$5 Wings to $5,000 Blowouts: How Restaurants Are Celebrating the Super Bowl

Bars aren’t the only spots in Washington getting in on the Super Bowl action. Lots of local restaurants are offering food specials for the coming Cardinals/Steelers throwdown. There’s everything from takeout guacamole to lobster corn dogs to Tuscan-style wings.

BlackFinn Restaurant & Saloon

This New York style saloon will feature a Sunday “Funday” of festivities, complete with a game menu of sloppy joes, nachos, margarita pizzas, a slider-eating contest and much more. You can also register for prizes such as flat-screen televisions.

Bourbon Steak

Michael Mina’s newly opened restaurant is transforming its private dining room into a rentable Super Bowl viewing den. For a mere $5000, 20 friends can watch the game on a 60-inch plasma screen while relaxing on leather couches. Chef David Varley’s haute tailgating menu includes black-truffle grilled cheeses, lobster corn dogs, foie-gras-stuffed chicken wings, lobster pot pie, Wagyu-beef chili, and milkshakes. The price tag includes beverages, tax, gratuity and a private cocktail server.

Clyde’s of Reston

This outpost of the casual American chain is still working on its Super Bowl Sunday brunch menu, but expect specials along the lines of a Pittsburgh pastrami-and-Munster sandwich on pumpernickel or a spicy burger with roasted poblano and Anaheim peppers, pepperjack cheese and chipotle mayonnaise.

Crystal City Sports Pub

The area’s self-proclaimed “white-collar sports bar” has more than 100 TV screens, including three ten-foot high-definition TVs and seven data boards. A Super Bowl-themed menu will include Pittsburgh- and Arizona-themed eats (Roethlis-burgers galore). The bar currently has bookings from the Arizona State Society, so expect rowdy support for the Cardinals.

Jimmy’s Old Town Tavern

Jimmy’s is celebrating its 12th annual Super Bowl bash this year. Food specials, offered between 11 and 9, include Buffalo wings; Philly cheesesteaks; “Arizona” burgers topped with pepperjack, pico de gallo, and sour cream; “Roethlis-burgers” (a sub roll with ground beef, sausage, scrambled eggs, and American cheese); and beef on weck. Special events also include a football toss at noon and a free football pool with gift certificates for the first 100 fans. After 9, a DJ will arrive to kick off the dancing. Reservations suggested.

Lia’s

Geoff Tracy’s Friendship Heights Italian restaurant will celebrate with drink specials and Tuscan-style wings. Happy-hour prices will be in effect all day ($5.95 burgers and $8.95 pizzas).

Mezza Luna

Mezza Luna will tune in its four plasma televisions and 100-inch projection screen to the game. Drink and appetizer specials will run throughout the day, including $4 bottles of select beers and $5 chicken wings.

Old Angler’s Inn

This historic inn and dining spot is offering half prices on its lounge menu, which includes calamari, burgers, and sliders. It’s also offering takeout.

Old Ebbitt Grill

It’s business as usual for this downtown saloon. The only difference on Super Bowl Sunday is that the kitchen quadruples its supply of wings.

Overwood

Seven-layer dip, Buffalo wings, and hot dogs are just a few of the bites on offer at this American spot’s Super Bowl buffet. It will also feature $2.50 draft beers, $3.50 mixed drinks, and $4 glasses of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery

The Arlington location of this chain brewpub is featuring a $5 menu, including miniature hot dogs, sliders, bacon-and-cheese fries, nachos, and chicken wings.

Rosa Mexicano

This Penn Quarter Mexican spot is offering a special menu featuring jumbo Mexican shrimp wrapped in bacon, chipotle chili con carne, and crispy seasoned pork rinds. You can also order guacamole to go in group-sized portions

Tower Oaks Lodge

For $35, game watchers can graze on an all-you-can-eat buffet featuring chicken wings, peel-and-eat shrimp, sliders, hot dogs, chili, jumbo pretzels, crab cakes, meatballs, spring rolls, and a taco bar. The restaurant has eight TVs, including one 52-inch screen, and there will be a nonbetting pool with raffles and prizes. Rolling Rocks are $3.
