8 Fall Races to Run in Washington for a Good Cause

Proceeds from each race will benefit various charities and organizations.

The Prevent Cancer 5K takes place on September 29 at Nationals Park and raises money for the the Prevent Cancer Foundation. It's just one of the many races in Washington this fall that benefit a charity or cause. Photograph via Prevent Cancer Foundation's Facebook page.

These days, running marathons and half marathons go hand in hand with fundraising for a good cause, thanks to the rise of popular training programs like Team in Training. But as much as we’d like to, a lot of us don’t always have the time to raise the large sums of money.

Fortunately, on the rare weekends that aren’t filled with kids’ soccer games, traveling, or family gatherings, there are lots of 5Ks and 10Ks in and around DC that benefit a good cause. The only requirement? That you sign up and run. We rounded up eight cause-worthy races for every weekend through October. Proceeds from each race will go towards a charity or organization that benefits anything from cancer research to wounded warriors.
