Party like you’re 12 at the National Barbie Convention, which runs through Saturday. Celebrating the doll’s 50th anniversary, the convention features a fashion show and an exclusive viewing of limited-edition collectors’ items as well as a sneak peek at specially designed pink shoes by Christian Louboutin, a diamond-encrusted Barbie, and a Swarovski-studded Volkswagen. Urban Chic is so tickled that Washingtonian readers picked it as a “best” for trendy clothes in this month’s issue of the magazine that it’s throwing a party. There’ll be Champagne, treats, and 10 percent off all new looks plus an exclusive promo code for $10 off your ticket to The Washingtonian’s Best of Washington party on July 15. Ilori (5330 Wisconsin Ave., NW; 301-656-1703), a designer-sunglasses shop that chose the new Shops at Wisconsin Place for its first Washington outpost, is hosting a grand-opening reception with Champagne and personal-shopping assistance at 7 PM. The store stocks designer collections from Chanel, Pucci, and Prada that are rarely found in department stores plus more modestly priced shades by names such as Ray-Ban. After more than a year of renovations, the former Hotel Washington is reopening today as the W Washington, D.C. (515 15th St., NW; 202-661-2400), which includes the hotel chain’s Bliss Spa. Book treatments such as a signature “blissage” massage or oxygen facial and enjoy the spa’s signature treats: a brownie bar in the lounge.

Nest, a Washington-based charity, helps provide women artisans in developing countries with micro-loans and sells their goods through its Web site, buildanest.com. The shop features a carefully curated selection of vintage duds from the team that brought you the blog Listopad. The space has eco-friendly bamboo flooring and antique furnishings. Sunday, July 12
Today is the last day to view the fancy dress costumes and ball gowns of heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post at her former estate, Hillwood (4155 Linnean Ave., NW; 202-686-5807). The exhibit includes archival images. A $12 donation is suggested.
