Wear + When: Stella & Dot Launch Party

Simple necklines work best when jewelry shopping.

Don’t know about you, but we’re ready to work out July stress with some post-work retail therapy. That’s precisely why you’ll find us at Puro Cafe tonight for the launch party of Stella & Dot’s fall line (pictured above). The versatile jewelry brand, favored by celebs and fashion magazine editors, is typically only sold online and at private trunk shoes, so get excited for the chance to see first-hand how well the pieces will work with your wardrobe.

Now the question on everyone’s lips: How do you accessorize when shopping for, well, accessories?

The answer is to let your clothes do the talking. Stick with simple necklines, such as crew or scoop, so you can see how necklaces naturally fall and how earrings hold up against bare collarbones. Trade busy prints for neutral texture on top, and stick with short sleeves to make pulling bracelets on and off easier. Love color? Keep it confined to the lower half of your body so it doesn’t compete with statement pieces. Here’s what we’re thinking:

Old Navy Bauble Gladiator Sandals, $20; Madewell lace illusion tee, $42; Rohit Gandhi/Rahul Khanna Abundant Palette skirt, $118; ASOS corsage skinny belt, $25.27; Cynthia Vincent Yellow Jones Masaic hobo, $245; Zigi NY arc shoulder bag, $295.

Puro Cafe (1529 Wisconsin Ave., NW) hosts the Stella & Dot Fall Line Launch Party Thursday, July 29, from 5:30 to 8:30. Twenty percent of proceeds benefit Fashion Fights Poverty. Want to see what else is going on tonight? Check out our weekend guide.
