What I Wear to Work: The Glitz of Gilt
Gilt City DC’s Marissa Schneider favors striking separates that land on just the right side of work sexy. By Sarah Zlotnick
Comments () | Published May 23, 2012

Who: Marissa Schneider, 30
Curator, Gilt City DC

What she does: I work to feature different brands and businesses on Gilt Groupe’s localized deal site Gilt City DC. We find and source the best of what DC has to offer, whether it’s the grand opening of a new restaurant or the best place for a blow-dry on K Street.

Describe your work style: Since I’m employed by a lifestyle brand as well as a tech startup, I don’t have to wear suits or be super-conservative, which makes it more fun to get dressed each morning. And I love to shop the site! Access to insider pricing on top designers is every fashionista’s dream, and I’m no exception.

Outfit One: Drinks After Work

After-work cocktails are always on the calendar, with clients or friends, and I like to look pulled together. Separates make it easier to mix and match and avoid repeating outfits—necessary in a time when we are constantly being photographed and instantly uploaded to websites and blogs.

Rory Beca dolman-sleeve top, Rag & Bone skirt, Cynthia Vincent heels, and Rachel Presley bracelets.

Outfit Two: Evening Event

At Gilt City we can have several events a week, from theme parties to restaurant openings. I like to wear festive brights and fun patterns, though I have no shortage of black.

Trina Turk dress, beaded heels from Macy’s, and Tod’s leather-and-gold bracelet.

Outfit Three: Daytime Client Meeting

A more conservative dress in a bold pattern with a jacket layered on top is an easy, comfortable, but still sharp look. I feel best in heels and like to be polished when meeting new clients. I hardly ever wear suits.

J. McLaughlin print dress, Jean-Michel Cazabat two-tone heel, turquoise necklace (gift from Marissa’s mother), and blazer from DKNY.

Outfit Four: Casual Day in the Office

It doesn’t happen often, but casual days in/out of the office are usually the only days I wear denim to work. I love flared denim trousers with swingy tanks or knits any time of year.

J brand Lovestory wide-leg jean, French Connection blouse, Velvet tank from Luna in Bethesda, and necklaces by Sheila Fajl.

this is miss m from capitol hill style. did you guys see that "belle" (real name abra belke) was in the most recent issue of TIME magazine?! real name and everything! apparently she's a lobbyist for the NRA and used to work for Rep. Denny Rehberg! I love that she's no longer hiding behind her pseudonym. I always loved the blog. But now it's just SO MUCH MORE REAL.
