Sidewalk Style: Pencil It In

For this week’s Sidewalk Style, we stopped an events director with a penchant for ultra-feminine wear—and Target bags.

Emily Jarmuth, 29

Events Director, Mie N Yu

What she’s wearing: Arden B high-waisted pencil skirt (with thin belt), Express jacket, and Anya Hindmarch for Target bag.

That bag looks way more expensive that I’m sure it was.

“It was like $50. I have a Target right across from my house, so I go as soon as the designer collections come out so I can get the good stuff. This was the last one there.”

Are the shoes comfortable?

“They’re not the best fit, but I have my Zara flats right here in my bag.”

How would you describe your style?

“Feminine, definitely. I’m very girly girl, and I like for my shoes and bag to match. I love dresses. I’m big into high-waisted skirts with belts. I love getting dressed in the morning—I need like two hours!”

Any staples?

“Sheath dresses. I love a tailored look, and it’s easy to change the look with jackets and accessories.”

Where do you like to shop?
“With what I do, I don’t have a lot of time to go bargain hunting. Because I work in Georgetown, I do a lot of my shopping there. I like Bebe, Arden B, Guess, and Steve Madden for shoes in that in-between price range. BCBG is my favorite place to splurge. Every year, I buy a new dress for the Rammy Awards, usually from there. The theme this year was bling, so I wore a lot of gold.

And Target, clearly.
“They have a great Victoria’s Secret knockoff line in the lingerie department. I think it’s better quality than the real thing!”

Rachel says:
I really liked a lot of the styles from the Anya Hindmarch for Target collection but never made it to my local store to check out the quality. (Quick background: Hindmarch is a London-based designer; lots of people now know her name because of her “I’m Not a Plastic Bag” tote, which quickly became a gotta-have-it item). I give this bag pretty high marks for both sturdiness and eye-pleasing design, so now I’m extra excited for the upcoming Hayden-Harnett collaboration (love the black clutch, hobo, chain-mail bag, and that adorable umbrella!).
