These Middle School Friends Married in a Bright Flower-Filled Wedding at Alexandria’s River Farm

There’s nothing like a flower-filled garden wedding to remind you of how wonderful a late-summer outdoor wedding can be. For their August wedding, Elizabeth Gill and Evan Ashe made the most of the beautiful grounds at River Farm with both an outdoor ceremony and reception, all captured on camera by Stephen Bobb Photography.

Evan and Elizabeth met on the playground at church while in middle school, which turned into a friendship that lasted through their teenage years at Annandale High School and then their college years at Virginia Tech, where they both attended. Though Elizabeth had a crush on Evan all through high school and they went on a first date to see a movie before they began their senior year, they were both too shy to begin dating officially. Finally, after they’d both graduated from college, they began to date in earnest.

Two and a half years after they’d begin dating, Evan brought Elizabeth to the Einstein Memorial on a cold November night. He proposed, then followed the magical moment with a reservation at the Fairmont Hotel, where Evan had planned ahead with flowers, champagne, and chocolate.

For their August 1 wedding, Evan and Elizabeth planned an outdoor ceremony at Alexandria’s River Farm, taking advantage of the natural scenery and stunning gardens.  Bright pops of pink and blue added some a cheerful color scheme to their tent reception.

At the reception, guests played cornhole and signed a wood bench as a guestbook. Cupcakes replaced a traditional wedding cake, though the bride and groom had ordered a petite round cake for cutting. After a night of dancing and celebrating with loved ones, the bride and groom departed with plans to continue the outdoor adventures on an Iceland honeymoon.
