Though Carly and John had visited the same summer camp when they were growing up, it took them returning as counselors for the two to meet. They developed a close friendship, and later took a group trip to Mexico with their other friends from camp. While on the trip, Carly and John’s ATV hit a pick-up truck, and both were severely injured. “During my months of recovery, John came to visit me in Massachusetts where I was living with my parents,” says Carly. “He decided it was finally time to tell me how he really felt about me. I felt the same way.”

Three years later, John was recovering from shoulder surgery—another after-effect of their ATV accident—and he’d finally reached a point at which he was physical therapist-approved to go on a walk. They decided to head to a botanical garden where Carly had been waiting to visit with John. While on their walk, Carly stopped on a bridge to look for turtles, and when she looked back around, John was on one knee behind her.

A year later the pair wed with a preppy celebration at Virginia’s Salamander Resort & Spa. Their pink-and-blue color scheme was perfect for their May wedding date, which also allowed the couple to marry outdoors. Carly arrived at the ceremony via a horse-drawn carriage, which the newlyweds rode off in after exchanging their vows.

Blue floral-print tablecloths brightened their tent reception, where chandeliers made of greenery hung over the dance floor. Wraps kept guests cozy as the evening wore on, and at the end of the night, attendees were sent home with custom shot glasses while the newlyweds made their exit with a sparkler send-off.
