We all need a drink (or several) to make it through a family-packed Thanksgiving weekend. Luckily, the DC government will once again allow bars to stay open extra-late and serve drinks until 4 AM on “Thanksgiving Eve” (a.k.a. Wednesday).
Nearly 200 bars have been approved for the late-night extension—and some are offering specials or hosting Turkey Night festivities. Among the options are Nellie’s Restaurant and Sports Bar on U Street, which hosts a Turkey Tag Team Day with a DJ duo and drink specials. Over on H Street, Little Miss Whiskey’s serves $5 imported German lagers. In Adams Morgan, Madam’s Organ welcomes all native Washingtonians home with drink specials throughout the night. Another AdMo hotspot, Jack Rose, plans to serve the coveted Sam Adams’ Utopia barrel-aged beer, released every two years (and illegal in 12 states for its high alcohol content). For happy hour in Shaw, head over to neighborhood spot the Royal for two happy hours (3 to 7 PM and 10 PM to 1 AM) featuring food discounts, $3 beers, $7 wines and classic cocktails, and $6 boozy snow cones.
Other party-friendly bars on this list include U Street spots like Cloak & Dagger, El Rey, and Prospect; H Street’s Biergarten Haus and RedRocks; and a number of places along the 14th Street corridor including Black Cat, Ghibellina/Sotto, and Bar Pilar. In the mood to dance? Echostage and Jimmy Valentine’s Lonely Hearts Club, among others, can keep the music going late.
