This Winter Wonderland Wedding Is Pure Magic

Dreaming of a snowy winter wedding vibe? Take note.

As high-school students in Queens, Alicia, now a management consultant, and Marcus, a registered nurse, were friends before heading away to college. Later, they reconnected and fell in love, with Marcus eventually popping the question while the pair were on vacation in Costa Rica.

Their February “winter night” wedding, decorated in hues of blue and silver, evoked a magical, snowy setting—complemented by the evening’s dusting of real-life snow. A string quartet—which the couple first heard at Penn Station in New York, where they lived—played ceremony music, then R&B and hip-hop during cocktail hour. The bride’s and bridesmaids’ bouquets featured white anemones (Alicia says the contrast of their dark centers heightened the wintry ambience), and branches and trees at the ceremony and reception set a winter-forest scene. Guests were asked to “dress competitively” in furs, sequins, velvets, and fun colors. At the end of the night, favors of Jamaican black cake nodded to Alicia’s heritage and completed the winter vibe.
