Following an accidental fire last week, the Phillips Collection presents an opportunity for art lovers to do good and have fun. Admission is free through the rest of the month, but the museum is accepting donations to help fund repairs. And this is a good week to lay down your dollars: Two related exhibitions of abstract art—“Richard Pousette-Dart: Predominantly White Paintings” and “Robert Ryman: Variations & Improvisations”—close September 12. Tuesday through Sunday 10 to 5 (open until 8:30 Thursday).
Also in the realm of high art: the premiere of Shakespeare’s All’s Well That Ends Well ($58 to $88) at the Shakespeare Theatre Company’s Lansburgh Theatre. The comedy explores themes that are just as resonant today as when the play was written—a woman who wants to get hitched and a man who definitely doesn’t—but with better writing than the romantic comedies we’re stuck with now. 7:30.
And speaking of the battle of the sexes, there’s a new translation of Simone de Beauvoir’s The Second Sex out, and the women behind it, Constance Borde and Sheila Malovany-Chevallier, will be at Politics and Prose to discuss the work. 7 PM; free.
