New York is known for its sample sales, where designers sell leftover merchandise. Often these events appear with little warning, but there are Web sites where you can find sample-sale calendars.
TopButton.com: Click on “shopping events,” then “New York,” for a list of upcoming sample sales. DailyCandy.com: This site’s New York e-mail newsletter sends out a frequent list of sample sales. NYMag.com: Check its fashion calendar for listings. SSS Sample Sales holds weekly sales at its showroom on West 36th Street. From Tory Burch to Theory, the weekday sales of merchandise from one or more designers tend to be crowded and a bit disorganized, but the discounts make them worth the wait. Find out about the sales on ClothingLine.com. This article appeared in the September 2008 issue of The Washingtonian. For more articles from that issue, click here.
