Listen Up!
Every Tuesday, Listen Up! brings you songs of bands and performers coming through town in the next week. Listen up, then go check them out live. By Alejandro Salinas

We don’t have to have to be psychics to know you’re probably kicking yourself for not getting tickets to tomorrow’s Hot Chip show at the 9:30, or Ted Leo at the Black Cat, or Of Montreal at the 9:30 on Thursday. Wait, that’s actually us kicking ourselves. Fortunately, there’s always Craigslist for last-minute options. A couple of tickets for the Hot Chip and Of Montreal shows are still available. Ted Leo fans: No tickets up for grabs yet. (And not to rub salt in your wound, but his solo show in December is also sold out. Just FYI.)

We’re big fans of the psychedelic craziness that is Of Montreal, but before you purchase scalped tickets, you may want to consider a better way of spending your money: That same night, the Rock and Roll Hotel is hosting the SAFE & Sound benefit concert. Former Georgie James member Laura Burhenn, Olivia & the Housemates, Lode Runner, and the Spiritual Machine will all be performing, and proceeds from the concert will benefit Survivors and Advocates for Empowerment (SAFE). Great music for a good cause? Not even Of Montreal can beat that.

Friday night, Venezuelan band Los Amigos Invisibles stops by the Black Cat for a show alongside Bio Ritmo and DJ Afro. Fusing Latin rhythms with disco and electronic elements long before bands like Kinky picked up the torch, the band is known for its energetic shows (and its borderline-inappropriate lyrics—but, hey, they’re in Spanish so no harm, right?). Check out the video for their song “Ponerte en Cuatro.”

The last band on this week’s playlist is San Diego’s Delta Spirit. The band’s been in the area before (playing at both DC9 and Iota), and its first single, “Trashcan,” has been making the rounds on Internet radio stations like WOXY for a while now. This time around, the guys bring their raucous, percussion-heavy pop tunes to the Rock and Roll Hotel for a show on Sunday.

Playlist no longer available.
