Things to Do

Where & When: This Week in Washington Nightlife

The start of the week can only mean one thing: Martini Monday time! Check out some local bartenders competing to make the best martini in DC. Plus, Kostume Karaoke and a roundup of St. Patrick's Day festivities.

Monday, March 10: Best Martini in Town
Want to see some of the top bartenders in town make their best martinis? Do it tonight at Beacon Bar and Grill (615 Rhode Island Avenue, NW), which is hosting its “Best Martini in DC” contest at 6 PM. Bartenders will battle to make the best martini as you nosh on appetizers and taste the featured drinks. $15. Call 202-872-1126 for information.

Tuesday, March 11: Go See the Magna Carta
Remember the Magna Carta from your middle-school history lessons? Yeah, the document that pretty much set the stage for American democracy? The only copy in the United States goes on display tonight at the National Archives (Constitution Avenue and Seventh Street) with an opening ceremony at 7 PM. There’ll also be a special program with A.E. Dick Howard, author of The Road from Runnymede: Magna Carta and Constitutionalism in America. So go and get your history on. Free.
Wednesday, March 12: Karaoke in Costume
What’s better than regular old karaoke? Karaoke where you dress up in ridiculous costumes and wigs! Solly’s Tavern (1942 11th Street, NW) holds its regular installment of Kostume Karaoke (the same one that used to be at Wonderland every Sunday) from 8 PM until close. So prep that Phil Collins tune you’ve been dying to belt out, get ready to throw on a blue sparkly wig and a pink tutu, and rock out.

Thursday, March 13: Party Early for St. Patrick’s
Who cares that St. Patrick’s Day falls during the work week, and on a Monday no less? We’re celebrating anyway! To tip your hat to Ireland’s patron saint, ring in the day with beer, festivities, food, and, oh yeah, more beer at some of these area hotspots with our guide of how to get your Irish cheer on.

What are you doing for fun this week? Let us know in the comments.
