Thursday, March 6: Who needs Sundance? The DC Independent Film Festival, a showcase for indie films, brings more than 100 movies from around the world to Washington tonight through March 16. The premise behind the Pecha Kucha event tonight at the Czech Embassy is simple: It’s meant to be a space where creative people can get together to talk about creative things. Young designers and artists present their work (each presenter is allowed 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds to keep the pace moving), while others watch and mingle. Friday, March 7: If you’re a coffee lover and have a free morning, head over to Counter Culture’s DC Regional Training Center (1836 Columbia Rd., NW, Suite 202), where reigning United Kingdom and world barista champion James Hoffmann is chatting from 10 to 11:30 AM. “DCist Exposed” returns! The local blog DCist’s second annual photography show gives local amateur photographers from the photo-sharing site Flickr a chance to show off their stuff. Saturday, March 8: “Evil” can be funny. That’s what four comedians of Middle Eastern descent are proving with their Axis of Evil Comedy Tour, which hits the Warner Theatre (13th and E sts., NW) tonight at 7. Ahmed Ahmed, Aron Kader, Maz Jobrani, and Dean Obeidallah do their best to make you laugh about culturally and politically relevant news. Tickets($37-$42) can be purchased here.
Book lovers will want to head to this weekend’s Washington Antiquarian Book Fair at the Holiday Inn Rosslyn (1900 N. Fort Myer Dr.). Collectors from around the world will be selling rare and antiquarian books plus maps, prints, drawings, and more. Entrance is $7 today, and the fair goes from 10 to 5.
We’ve recommended it before, and we’ll do it again: Make sure to catch local band Jukebox the Ghost when it plays tonight at the Rock and Roll Hotel (1353 H St., NE; 202-388-ROCK). If you like upbeat, catchy, piano-based rock, then this band will be right up your alley, and its show will leave you grinning and bopping. $10; 8 PM.
