Monday, March 2
New Yorker staff writer and author Adam Gopnik will discuss Angels and Ages: A Short Book About Darwin, Lincoln, and Modern Life at Politics and Prose at 7. In the book, Gopnik shows how Abraham Lincoln and Charles Darwin—who were born on the same day 200 years ago—changed the way people think about death, time, and the nature of existence.

Tuesday, March 3
Marlon James’s second novel, The Book of Night Women, focuses on the lives of a group of 19th-century Jamaican slaves as they plan an uprising. The author will read from the book and sign copies at Borders at 18th and L streets, Northwest, at 12:30.

Wednesday, March 4
The Wayne Tympanick Trio performs at 12:30 in the Corcoran’s Frances and Armand Hammer Auditorium as part of its Wednesday jazz series.

Thursday, March 5
The Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Moving Image series presents an evening with digital-media artist Cory Arcangel at 7 in the McEvoy Auditorium. Arcangel will discuss his various projects, including video games and obsolete computer systems.

Friday, March 6
Jazz guitarists Philip Catherine and Sylvain Luc will perform in the Library of Congress’s Coolidge Auditorium at 8. This event’s free tickets are all taken, but more seats will made available for guests who come early and wait in the standby line. Call 202-707-5502 for more information.

Saturday, March 7
The National Gallery of Art screens the Japanese film Cruel Story of Youth in the East Building auditorium at 4. The movie, released in 1960, follows the exploits of a thrill-seeking teenager and a university student.

Sunday, March 8
Three members of the Smithsonian Chamber Players—pianist Audrey Andrist, violinist/violist James Stern, and cellist Kenneth Slowik—will perform works by Beethoven and Brahms in the Museum of American Art’s McEvoy Auditorium at 3. The concert is part of the museum’s Steinway series.
