Head to the Mansion at Strathmore for the impressive calligraphy designs of Sheila Waters, one of Britain’s youngest Fellows of the Society of Scribes and Illuminators in London. The beautiful Old World designs are sure to catch your eye. This exhibit, which opened July 18, runs through August 22. Click here for more information. Don’t miss the tenth annual Design Awards celebration, which takes place today only. Take the morning off and head to one of the free lectures given by pairs of winners from 10 to 11 AM. Highlights include Francisco Costa, the creative director of Calvin Klein, at the Corcoran, and staff members of the New York Times graphics department at the Smithsonian Castle. The Capital Hip Hop Soul Fest takes over Marvin Gaye Park (enter at Foote Street and Division Avenue, Northeast) starting at 11 AM today. Last year’s show featured two stages for rap performances, a demonstration stage that showcased local dance troupes, and a fashion show.
