Come for a tasting of seven saison beers—sturdy but low-alcohol farmhouse ales brewed for summer drinking—tonight at Logan Circle’s Birch & Barley. The brewing style fell out of fashion for awhile, but it made a comeback in recent years. The samples of the world’s best saisons are accompanied by small bites of summer food, and beer director Greg Engert will talk tasters through the drinks. Varieties include Brasserie Des Géants’ Saison Voisin, the Saison de Silly, and the only US Saison brew: the Michigan-based Jolly Pumpkin’s Bam Noire. Wolf Trap’s Filene Center in Vienna hosts the ’80s Aussie stars Crowded House, who are performing with New Zealand’s Lawrence Arabia. Look out for the hits that first made the headliners famous, such as “Don’t Dream It’s Over” and “Something So Strong.” After the death of drummer Paul Hester, the group reunited in 2007 for a new album, Time on Earth. Tickets are $25 to $40. 8 PM.
Enjoy a movie at sunset with the Screen on the Green film festival on the National Mall between Fourth and Seventh streets. Tonight’s flick is 12 Angry Men, Sidney Lumet’s 1957 Oscar-nominated classic about a lone juror, Henry Fonda, who stands up for the facts. Moviegoers start claiming spots around 5, so get there early with your blankets and lawn chairs. The show starts around 8:30.
