Tax Holiday in Virginia
To gear up for back-to-school shopping, this weekend the entire state of Virginia slashes sales taxes on all clothing and shoe purchases priced at $100 or less and school supplies priced under $20. To sweeten the deal: Make your tax-free purchases at The Fashion Centre at Pentagon City, and if you spend over $150, you’ll get a free triathlon sports bottle when you show your receipts at the mall’s Guests Services center. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. See the full list of tax-exempt items online

MidCity Dog Days Sidewalk Sale
Love a good outdoor shopping sale? Then don’t miss this one: This weekend the 14th Street corridor (aka MidCity) kicks off its 14th annual sidewalk sale, with more than 100 boutiques, restaurants, and art galleries participating. Blue’s Hard Goods, Pulp, Home Rule, Redeem, and lots more will offer special sales, in-store events, and giveaways. A few of the festivities include: Consignment favorite Current Boutique offers 20 percent off the entire store; Score mid-century furniture half-off at Millennium Decorative Arts; Room & Board hosts a giveaway for a gift certificate worth $250; and to finish things off, Studio Theatre sells off the props and costumes from the year’s productions at its yearly blowout sale. Saturday and Sunday. MidCity, along 14th Street from Florida Avenue to Thomas Circle and on U Street between 9th and 17th streets.

Lou Lou Day
For the second year, accessories chain Lou Lou launches an all-store charity shopping day, during which shoppers snag a buy-one-get-one 25 percent discount and score a Baggu reusable bag with any $50 purchase. Plus: The stores will also offer a styling bar and sweet treats. Fifteen percent of the day’s proceeds will go to charities that support women’s cancer research, education, and awareness. Saturday. Multiple stores. Visit Lou Lou’s website for locations.
