Jingle Bell Shopping: Holiday Markets and Craft Bazaars

If you’re a get-it-done-in-a-day Christmas shopper, don’t miss the fifth annual Downtown Holiday Market, on F Street, Northwest, in front of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. One of the largest seasonal markets in DC, it has more than 180 booths selling art, jewelry, clothing, and pottery. Finds this year include copper and brass jewelry from South Africa; purses, wallets, and journals made from recycled books; imported Japanese kimonos; Tibetan singing bowls; watercolors and photographs by DC artists; and handmade Christmas ornaments. Food options range from Korean barbecue to hand-pulled candy canes. Thirty crafts vendors will be at the two-day Holiday Gift Market hosted by the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Part of the proceeds will go to exhibitions and educational programming. Tuesday, December 8, from 10 to 8, and Wednesday. December 9, from 10 to 5 in the museum’s great hall. The museum’s gift shop will also be open. For more information, click here.

Shop for trees at the Capitol Riverfront Second Annual Holiday Market, where, among other vendors, Gingko Gardens will sell small pines, poinsettias, and other greenery. The four-day festival, held in Canal Park (Second and M sts., SE), also includes live music. Tuesday, December 15, through Friday, December 18, from noon to 6. On Wednesday, the market closes at 7.

All this month, you can find quirky, one-of-a-kind Asian items—including scarves, toys, books, and handmade textiles—at the Freer Gallery’s Attic Sale, in the Freer Conference Room daily from 10 to 4.

Ten years ago, the Black Cat’s Rock ’N’ Shop began as a junk sale for the nightclub’s employees and their friends to clean out their closets. It’s now an arts-and-crafts sale open to the public. Vendors include the vintage-dress store MojoGurl, the pop-art-inspired jewelers Charming Vices, and I Like Sea Monsters, a brand known for T-shirts and wallets featuring green zombies. MARYLAND
Running through January 10, Glen Echo Park’s Holiday Art Sale includes jewelry, glass, ceramics, photography, and painting by artists and instructors from the Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture. Through December 20, the show is open Friday 11 to 2 and 8 to 11, Saturday noon to 6 and 8 to 11, and Sunday noon to 6. Starting Saturday, December 26, it’ll be open every Saturday and Sunday from noon to 6. The show is held in the park’s Popcorn Gallery.

At Riverdale Park’s Holiday Market (Riverdale Park Town Center, 4650 Queensbury Rd.), items for sale include handbags, soy candles, and jewelry. There’ll also be holiday music, sing-alongs, pictures with Santa, and free trolley rides. Saturday, December 12, and Sunday, December 13, from noon to 8. For a full schedule of events, click here.

At the National Harbor holiday market, held on American Way, more than 40 vendors will sell such items as glassworks, coffee, baked goods, and scarves. Through December 20, the market is open Saturday noon to 8 and Sunday from noon to 6. For more information, click here

VIRGINIA
More than 250 artisans from all over the country will sell their work at the Sugarloaf Crafts Festival at the Dulles Expo Center (4368 Chantilly Shopping Center, Chantilly; 703-378-0910). Items include pottery, jewelry, fashion, home decor, and photography. There’ll also be artist demonstrations, music, children’s puppet shows, and food vendors.
