The temperature isn’t the only thing heating up this month—the Dog Days of August sidewalk sale in MidCity promises sizzling deals August 7 and 8 at the shops and restaurants lining 14th Street. Participating businesses will offer merchandise discounts, meal deals, and food samples as part of the event, now in its 11th year. Last year it drew 10,000 people, so bet on a crowd. Here are our picks for the best bargains.

Want to live a theatrical life? Now you can: The Studio Theatre is selling props, antiques, and home furnishings from last season’s productions on Saturday from 10 to 4.

When the heat gets to be too much, cool down with free popsicles on Marvin’s rooftop deck from noon to 6.

Talk about taking ‘dog days’ seriously: For those who’ve brought their furry friends, Room & Board is offering free dog biscuits as well as treats from CakeLove for famished shoppers.

Vintage shop Junction is offering steep discounts, including a $5 sale rack and a $2 sale bin. Look also for specials on jewelry by local artist Renee Prioleau.

Thirsty? Visit the stand outside Cork Market for homemade lemonade and donuts. Inside, there’ll be wine tastings and discounts.

Hungry? Head to Local 16 for a free slice of margarita pizza from 5 to 8.

If you’re looking to make your bed a bit comfier, take 15 percent off all items at Timothy Paul Bedding + Home.

Between shopping splurges, snag food and beverages samples all day in front of Policy. Head inside for restaurant specials after 5.

Everything at Miss Pixie’s is 20 percent off, so take advantage of its selection of funky home furnishings.

If you’re looking for a meal after a full day of shopping, stop by DC Noodles or Rice for dinner—present a receipt from a Dog Days shop at either to get 10 percent off your meal.
