Attention, Shoppers: Tax-Free Weekend Starts Tomorrow in Virginia

And the always-awesome MidCity Dog Days sale is happening in the District this weekend.

Hands down, the thing we miss most about our school days (besides, you know, summer breaks and financial dependence) is back-to-school-shopping. New sneaks, freshly sharpened pencils, the snapping sound of three-ring binders . . . yep, those were the glory days.

But even if you’re not gearing up for the next academic year, the great state of Virginia will still cut you a deal. This Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, all clothing and footwear items priced at $100 or less and all learning accoutrements priced at $20 or less can be purchased without paying sales tax. For a more specific list of items covered by the annual School Supplies and Clothing Holiday, check online

If you’re really focused on scoring a deal, we recommend heading to the Potomac Mills outlet mall in Woodbridge. In addition to no sales tax, the Last Call by Neiman Marcus store there is offering 50 to 65 percent off clearance prices, bags are going for 30 percent off at the Coach Factory, and a whole slew of other stores (including a Bloomingdale’s outlet) are holding special sales. Click here for more information.

For shoppers who don’t want to head out of the District, here’s an equally awesome alternative: Grab brunch on 14th Street, then explore the MidCity Dog Days sale. This Saturday and Sunday, most of the boutiques on 14th and U streets will participate in the annual sidewalk sale with massively discounted merch. We’ll be hitting up Ginger Root and Treasury Vintage for their $5 bins, Lettie Gooch for the $50-and-under rack, Home Rule for 50 to 75 percent off quirky kitchen and bathroom accessories, the Studio Theater garage sale, and the DC Flea vintage pop-up at Blackbyrd on Sunday. There will also be a three-for-$10 table at insidery jewelry shop Legendary Beast. More sales are being added constantly; click here to stay updated!
