Wear + When: Art Collecting

Deconstructed safari staples to take you through this weekend’s gallery openings

From Billy Colbert’s Friday opening at Honfleur Gallery to sculptor Alan Binstock’s Saturday talk at American University, this weekend is full of art events. If you’re planning on checking one out but not sure what to wear, don’t worry—outfitting yourself to appreciate someone else’s creativity isn’t as tricky as it sounds. Remember to err on the side of edgy, avoid overly tailored garments (the last way you want to appear is stiff), and always incorporate one completely unexpected piece. We chose neutral safari basics in unexpected shapes, then accented the look with a healthy dose of rugged glam via chainlink jewelry and dramatic red lips. The final touch? A hardware-heavy leopard-print bootie sure to catch everyone off guard.

The pieces:
Poleci linen-blend cropped pants, $78
American Eagle Orange Pulse bar belt, $19.50
Madewell silk cargo shirt, $110
Diana Broussard chain with crystal necklace, $670
Giorgio Armani Armanisilk Lipstick #94, $38
Tory Burch leopard print Halma bootie, $475
