This Late-Summer Garden Wedding at Alexandria’s River Farm is Fit for the Queen

With the garden party setting, feather fascinator, and groomsmen in tailcoats, Megan McCarthy and Robert Tisch’s nuptials feel like something out of the British monarchy’s party planning handbook. Their elegant celebration was captured in the photos below by Amber Kay Photography.

After sharing several looks across their cubicles at work—he’s a financial analyst, she’s a claims representative—Robert and Megan finally decided to take the plunge to meet up for happy hour cocktails. Robert thought Megan was “the perfect blend of down-to-earth and classic beauty,” so they set up a first date in Alexandria. After a stroll through the streets of Old Town that led them through Founders Park, Megan and Robert continued their conversation over dinner at Daniel O’Connell’s Restaurant & Bar.

They’d dated for five years when Robert suggested they stop in Old Town on the way home from vacation. They took a leisurely walk along the Alexandria marina. Megan thought nothing of it until Robert dropped to one knee and proposed.

For their wedding on a hot end-of-summer day, Megan and Robert followed their church ceremony with an outdoor cocktail hour and reception at River Farm. Guests played lawn games will sipping from the open bar before moving into a tent for dinner.

After cutting unto their gluten-free citrus and raspberry cake, the newlyweds departed in a 1952 Bentley, with plans to honeymoon in St. Lucia.
