This Georgetown Wedding is a Romantic Wonderland of Candles and White Roses

It never ceases to amaze us how many different ways you can do a hotel wedding in Washington. When it came to Nchang Azefor and Daniel Innocent’s The Westin Georgetown celebration, they turned it into a candlelit ivory and purple dream. Take a peek at their day below in the photos by Natarsha Wright Photography.

Though Daniel had originally attended to go to a lounge a near the one that Nchang was hanging out at with friends, when he found the club closed, he changed his plans. Nchang was retrieving her phone from the bartended who had been charging it for her as Daniel walked up. “Daniel had a great smile and sense of humor yet he seemed like a serious and sincere person,” says Nchang of her first impression. They met up for a fist date in Alexandria, where they visited the shops at the Torpedo Factory, a little over a week later.

They’d only been dating a few months when Daniel took Nchang out for dinner in Georgetown to make her feel better about having to work instead of join her family on a trip to New York. But what started as a normal date night didn’t end that way. “On the walk back to our cars, Daniel decided to propose to me,” says Nchang. “It was really out of the blue; I was not expecting that at all and was kind of taken aback.” After insisting that he get to know her family first, the pair had a dinner with Nchang’s parents a month later, after which Daniel proposed a second time. This time, Nchang said yes.

A year later, the two celebrated their wedding with a ceremony on Howard University’s campus followed by a ballroom reception in Georgetown. Their ivory, gold, and purple color scheme brought a glam vibe to the room, which was filled with candles and white roses, while a rum bar added a punch of fun to the event.

After dancing to John Legend’s “All of Me,” Nchang and Daniel cut into their orchid-covered passion fruit and apricot cake. At the end of the night, guests went home with custom sugar cookies with the newlywed’s initials, “D & N,” on them.
