We love it when a couple takes a theme and runs with it, and that’s exactly what Kathryn (Lizey) Korengold and Stephan Bernstorf did in their stunning fall-foliage-filled wedding in DC. Take a peek at their beautiful day in the photos below by Patricia Lyons Photography.

While Lizey and Stephan were both studying at Trinity College in Connecticut, the two initially met at a party. Though Stephan thought Lizey was cute, it was her love for sports that sold him. Three months after they met, the two went out to dinner on Valentine’s Day, the beginning of their six-year relationship.
Though the plan was always to get married in DC, Lizey’s love for Nantucket made it clear to Stephan that it needed to be some part of the process. So, when Lizey’s family was visiting Nantucket and took a tour of a lighthouse, Stephen held Lizey up at the top, giving him the perfect romantic spot to pop the question.
For their October wedding, Lizey and Stephen planned for a perfect fall celebration. Following their church ceremony, leaf-shaped escort cards guided guests to their seats at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium, where fall trees, trellises, and glossy mahogany tables decorated the space.
Guests sipped Moscow Mules and were served from the apple spice, red velvet, and vanilla tiered cake before moving to the balcony of the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium for an after party. Later, Lizey and Stephan headed off for a honeymoon in Bali.
