For finishing touches—wall paint by Benjamin Moore, balcony-scale grills and Big Green Egg cookers, window blinds—this multilevel Ace outpost (unusually large for a hardware store in the city) also offers tools for rent and a large garden section with plants on a breezy outdoor deck.

6. West Elm
Colorful, inexpensive bedding (a preppy orange-stripe duvet cover, purple cotton sheets), well-priced wool rugs, terrarium supplies, and more fill two buzzing floors of a national chain that’s Pottery Barn’s cooler, younger sibling.

7. Miss Pixie’s Furnishings & Whatnot
This pink-walled souk traffics in vintage finds such as retro garden furniture, midcentury dressers, and funky wineglasses, plus it’ll deliver for cheap in a brightly painted van.
