It gets lots of press for its trendy restaurants and bars, but Northwest DC’s 14th Street is also home to some of the city’s best decor stores, which offer new and vintage furniture and home accessories.

1. Mara Home

Apartment-size sofas from Gus Modern, colorful rugs, customizable glass-topped dining tables, and local art fill this cement-floored showroom.

2213 14th St., NW; 202-232-4526.

2. Room & Board

On four levels of a 1919 auto showroom, you’ll find clean-lined outdoor furniture, low-slung sofas in your choice of fabrics, and bright kids’ furnishings, all with a midcentury vibe.

An elegant outpost for boho-cool printed plates, throws with exotic patterns, and gifts like jewelry and kids’ clothes, plus bar-cart and kitchen supplies (cherry-bark/vanilla bitters, anyone?).

1401 S St., NW; 202-621-6647.

4. Home Rule

This shop—itself the size of a studio apartment—sells moderately priced kitchen gadgets, quirky shower curtains, and seasonal decor such as whimsical Christmas ornaments (glittery peacocks, glass sushi rolls).

1807 14th St., NW; 202-797-5544.

5. Logan Hardware

For finishing touches—wall paint by Benjamin Moore, balcony-scale grills and Big Green Egg cookers, window blinds—this multilevel Ace outpost (unusually large for a hardware store in the city) also offers tools for rent and a large garden section with plants on a breezy outdoor deck.

1734 14th St., NW; 202-265-8900.

6. West Elm

Colorful, inexpensive bedding (a preppy orange-stripe duvet cover, purple cotton sheets), well-priced wool rugs, terrarium supplies, and more fill two buzzing floors of a national chain that’s Pottery Barn’s cooler, younger sibling.

1728 14th St., NW; 202-986-2165.

7. Miss Pixie’s Furnishings & Whatnot

This pink-walled souk traffics in vintage finds such as retro garden furniture, midcentury dressers, and funky wineglasses, plus it’ll deliver for cheap in a brightly painted van.

9. Timothy Paul Home

Globetrotting design wizards Timothy and Mia Worrell source rugs from Morocco, Turkey, and India, as well as luxe bedding and exotic pillows (they can also make one from a textile you bring in).

10. Studio Theatre Garage Sale

The annual flea market in the first week of August offers deals on art and furniture once featured on Studio’s stages (say, red Italian acrylic chairs that starred in The Wolfe Twins).
